Smoke Alarms

Smoke alarm compliance plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of occupants.

Vultey can install hard wired and interconnected smoke alarms in accordance with Queensland requirements.

Smoke alarms in Queensland

All new homes must be equipped with interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in every bedroom, in hallways that connect bedrooms with the rest of the dwelling, and on each level of the residence.

Additionally, alarms must meet Australian Standard 3786-2014 and be powered by either 240-volt mains power or a 10-year non-removable lithium battery.

The goal is to enhance early detection of fires and provide occupants with the precious time needed to evacuate safely.

At Vultey, we are committed to ensuring your compliance with these essential safety measures, offering professional installation and guidance to keep you and your loved ones protected.

Smoke alarm requirements

In Queensland, smoke alarms must:

  • be photoelectric (AS3786:2014); and
  • not also contain an ionisation sensor; and
  • be less than 10 years old; and
  • operate when testing; and
  • be interconnected with every other smoke alarm in the dwelling so all activate together

Smoke alarms must be installed on each storey:

  • in each bedroom; and
  • in hallways which connect bedrooms and the rest of the dwelling; or
  • if there is no hallway, between the bedrooms and other parts of the storey; and
  • if there are no bedrooms on a storey at least one smoke alarm must be installed in the most likely path of travel to exit the dwelling.

Smoke alarms must be either hardwired or powered by a non-removable 10 year battery, or a combination of both may be allowed.

In new dwellings and dwellings being substantially renovated smoke alarms shall be of the hardwired type only with a secondary power source (ie. battery).
